Mex City #1

‘Yeah yeah yeah mate just come to Mex and fang it around with us for a few months, she’ll be right’. This was pretty much our pitch to Harry, Paige, Mylene, Eleanor, Ben and Laura as we convinced them to come to Mexico to buy some cars and have a dope time.

Having been highly organised by booking an Air'bnb as we left Colombia, we nabbed a 3 bedroom apartment that would hopefully squeeze in 9 people. Organising the cars and all the other shit could come later, ey. As everyone arrived, we furiously searched the web for some shitty budget friendly metal boxes on wheels that could take us around the country. On the second day we had scored a beauty; an old green Chevy Blazer for 1800AUD. Siiiiiick. Just one more car to go. Tomorrows problem.

The stoke was high so Pat and I decided to celebrated that night. We met up with some mates that I definitely didn’t match with on Tinder. We met Carina, Maggie, and Selma at a bar in the south end of the city for some drinks. After getting along swimmingly, they invited us to a local house party. Pat and I just had one condition; that our mates back at the apartment could come along. Hesitantly, Carina said yes, thinking there was only a few well-behaved mates that would be coming along. Oblivious to us, they were all back at the apartment getting absolute pissed. So, when Pat and I got to the house party, and when we got the message saying our mates are out the front wanting to come in, we were, to say the least, a little hesitant. Why? Because this party wasn’t like the silly piss ups we have at home. Let’s just say it was a little more, well, upper class. As we opened the door, our Mexican mates got a little bit of a shock as Harry and Lachie tried to spear tackle me into the finely pedicured rose bushes. Nevertheless, they were in, and we were all ready to party.

Lots of alcohol was shared and the dance floor shredded as most of the Mexicans watched the show unfold. We tried to change the reggaetón music that was blasting all night and were successful for a few 5 minute periods. Other than that, the night was very messy. Yet some of the locals frothed it and had an epic time with us, others just watched on. The night finished with Harry passed out, Paige completely lost until the next day and Lachie throwing up every atom in his stomach, yew.

Feeling as grim as ever in the morning, and Harry literally unable of completing any simple task, we had no luck on buying another car… go figure. We still had one more day. Another 30 odd messages sent out in crappy Spanish and we were pretty much going to take anything we could get our hands on. Despite everyone feeling rather shit, I was still in party mode, and danced away at a mad house/techno party that night called ‘Sunday Sunday’ with Maggie, which I highly recommend going to if you want a boog in Mexico city.

When I came home early in that night / morning I saw the others had landed a sweet old jeep Cherokee that looked beaten to death but apparently was working fine.

We were ready. Two extremely shit cars and 9 highly unorganised friends ready for a Surf Safari around Mexico. The only anxiety in my mind that night was whether the shit boxes we bought were actually able for jaunt around Mex. They definitely weren’t.

More on that later,

Scotty.
